Where Can I Find The Best CDL Training?
There are many different companies offering CDL training courses. You should pick a well known company with a reputation for delivering quality content and more importantly results. You are wasting your money if you opt for cheap commercial driving license courses that don't prepare you properly and you end up failing the CDL skills test.
Who is the right CDL training provider for you?
That depends on your personal circumstances including where you live. Some companies may not offer training in your area and it makes sense to learn to drive in the State you will be primarily based in.
Some students will have saved up some money to cover their expenses while they take a month off to do a CDL training course. This is not a viable option for everyone as you need the cost of the training plus money for your normal bills such as your rent/mortgage, food, utilities etc.
If you want to train full time, most truck driving schools offer a financing option. You may be able to pay part of the fees up front and then pay as you go. Alternatively they may provide you with a loan. Always check the fine print to make sure that you are aware of any charges you may incur including the interest rate.
You should check with whomever prepares your taxes to see if you qualify for any rebates or offsets that may help reduce the cost of your CDL training school. If you are still living at home and are financially dependent on your parents, they may be able to claim tax deductions.
Don’t build up a lot of debt paying for your commercial driving license training in the hope of paying it off quickly when you laid a high paying truck driver job. Sure there are jobs available but most companies want experienced drivers. If they do take on drivers who have just completed their CDL training, the rate of pay is usually quite low.
Three of the best known truck driving schools are Smith & Solomon, Roadmaster and TDDS. All three offer help with job placement, quality behind the wheel training as well as instructors with experience in the real world of trucking. TDDS offers a variety of programs for experienced truckers who are looking to upgrade their skills. If you already have your CDL but want to add specific endorsements, you may prefer to opt for their refresher courses.
Does anyone offer weekend or evening CDL Training?
If you are working another job or have other commitments, you may prefer to train to become a truck driver at night or at weekends. This should be the option you choose if you want to avoid building up debt related to your studies.
One of the companies mentioned above, Smith and Solomon offer night and weekend courses. Yes it will take you longer to qualify than it would if you were studying full time but you won’t have the financial pressure of having school loans. Remember you need to get in at least 44 hours actual driving experience which is a lot when you are limited for time.
But don't settle for a company that doesn’t provide you with on the road training. You want to pass your CDL skills test at the first attempt right?
